The objective of the workshop is to provide the participants with a framework for conducting conceptual analyses that guide the teaching of important skills to children with autism. The workshop includes topics presented in introductions to Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior and applied behavior analysis but with an emphasis upon the theoretical and conceptual foundation of these topics. In a highly interactive format the workshop will include materials and discussion related to the conceptual analyses of motivation, word meaning and understanding (joint control), private events in a natural science. These topics will be linked to the clinical application of these concepts and principles to the teaching of important skills to children with autism. Moreover, learning activities, video illustrations and observations of learners in the clinic will be used demonstrate the application of these concepts and principles. The workshop also includes topics related to the management of behavioral programs. Throughout the workshop the participant’s verbal repertoire related to the use of technical behavioral terms to describe the conceptual analysis and teaching of important skills to learners with autism will be shaped and reinforced differentially.

Autism 1 in 110 | Asthma 1 in 9 | Peanut Allergy 1 in 100 | ADHD 1 in 11 | Juvenile Diabetes 1 in 400 | Childhood Bipolar Disorder 1 in 100

How many children with autism did you know in the 1970’s? Did any of your classmates have a life-threatening pea-nut allergy? School nurses now spend their days dispensing controlled medications, giving breathing treatments, test-ing blood sugars, guarding “epi” pens and timing seizures. Does that seem right to you?

Media sound bites reassure the public that the explosion in chronic childhood disease is inexplicable. But it’s not.

They say mercury has been removed from vaccines. But it hasn’t.
They say the type and concentration of mercury found in vaccines has always been safe. But it isn’t.
They say the vaccine schedule has been proven safe. But it hasn’t.
They say not to worry – in twenty or thirty years they will have it figured out. But you’re worried.
Because your child could be next. Your grandchild could be next.

Come hear first-hand from three individuals at the heart of the matter why this controversy just won’t go away. Bring your open mind, your tough questions, and your neighbor for the most important educational event of the year in Houston.

Houston Autism Disability Network/ NW Houston Chapter Autism Society of America
and Katy Autism Support Proudly Present:

The Age of Autism: Mercury, Medicine and a Man-Made Epidemic
By Dan Olmsted and Mark Blaxill

Dan Olmsted, a journalist for 35 years and original staff member of USA Today, is editor of the website Age of Autism (www.ageofautism.com)

Mark Blaxill, an autism advocate for more than a decade and father of an affected child, has written widely on the scientific controversies surrounding autism. Blaxill and Olmsted meticulously researched this book for more than five years and their compelling findings will change the way you think about our world.

Callous Disregard: Autism and Vaccines, The Truth Behind a Tragedy
By Andrew J. Wakefield, MB, BS, FRCS, FRCPath

Dr. Andrew Wakefield is an academic gastroenterologist who, with his colleagues in the UK, first identified a unique inflammatory bowel disease in children with autism, many of whom were said to have regressed following their MMR vaccine. His remarkable story is a cau-tionary tale for any physician who puts the needs of his patients above commercial interests. Moreover, it’s a call to action for people who care about the future of our children. Dr. Wakefield has published over 140 original scientific articles, book chapters, and invited sci-entific commentaries.
